I should probably explain how the idea began. It was on a 2 week road trip to Florida to visit family and to see America, the south specifically since I had never driven through that part of the country. I didn't realize it then, but the scenery stuck with me. As we drove and saw the most beautiful parts the south had to offer, we would get out to stretch or get gas, and there was garbage, everywhere. At gas stations, rest stops and road side pull offs. It became disheartening to say the very least. At most, I wanted to do something but wasn't sure what at the time.
Then, six months later, we took another road trip through Utah and Colorado. This time we took our pop up tent and went to explore nature. Again, as we drove, we encountered many unique and diverse areas where garbage also showed its ugly self. Unfortunately, some of it over took the beauty of the area. This, just after BP lost control of their oil rig causing everyone to stir, to put it politely. This time, I decided to do something about it. For all of us. Not just for those who live on the coast or off the freeway, or for the sea and its life, that already deals with a debris field the size of Texas, for us now and those to come after. For all of us to see the real beauty, sometimes the hidden beauty that America the Beautiful has to offer!
